Electronic Travel Authorization Launched in Somalia

Somalia has launched an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTAS), which aims to provide travelers with faster entry into the country, versus the previous visa-on-arrival system.

Most foreign nationals traveling for business, tourism and short-term studies must obtain an eTAS online before entering Somalia.

Exemptions apply to foreign nationals who were issued multiple-entry visas before September 1, 2025, visa-exempt nationals or residence or work permit holders.

It is not possible to obtain an eTAS upon arrival in Somalia. Traveling without an eTAS when one is required will result in denied entry.

The eTAS may be issued for either single or multiple entries, with validity depending on the visa type.
