Schengen Area Electronic Visa Scheme Preliminarily Approved

The European Council and European Parliament have preliminarily approved the proposed rules of the Schengen eVisa Scheme (separate to the ETIAS initiative).
The scheme aims to automate the visa procedure by way of digitalization of the visa application form, replacement of the visa endorsement sticker with a 2D encrypted barcode, and exclusively in the case of visa renewals, redundancy of in-person consulate appearance requirements.
