Visa Waiver and Multiple-Entry Visas to Malawi

Based on a published gazette, Malawi has implemented a visa waiver program for 47 nationalities to enter and stay in the country for tourism and business, whereas previously they needed a visa to enter for such activities.

This follows a similar rule implemented by other countries in Africa such as Angola and Mozambique to attract business visitors and tourists for economic growth.

Separately, a new rule allows foreign nationals under multiple-entry visas to stay in Malawi for a six or 12-month period, depending on the reciprocal rule in the country the individual is entering for Malawian nationals. Previously, these travelers were issued a validity period based on their purpose of travel, which was often shorter than the validity periods under the new rule.

Further details are expected to be issued on both rules in the future.
