Brazil Digitalises Temporary Visa Issuance Process
Effective 1 September 2026, Brazil has introduced a fully digital consular process for temporary visas for nationals who are exempt from the country's visitor visa requirements.
The change applies to all temporary visa categories, including work, family reunion and digital nomad visas.
Applicants can now submit their visa application and supporting documents online and, once approved, receive their visa electronically by email. This removes the need to visit a Brazilian consulate to submit a passport, provide original documents or collect the visa in person.
While the consular stage has been digitalised, existing requirements remain unchanged. Employers sponsoring work visa applicants must still obtain residence authorisation from the relevant Brazilian authorities, and travellers may still be required to complete post-arrival registration with the Federal Police.
The new process is expected to reduce administrative burdens and support faster international mobility by eliminating in-person appointments and passport handling requirements. Further implementation guidance from Brazilian authorities is anticipated as Brazilian consular posts update their processes.
